Eugene Oregon Family Photographer: Outdoor Family Sessions at Perkins Peninsula Park

The weather is still chilly here in Eugene, but we’re also getting to that time of year where I know spring is just around the corner. I’m definitely looking forward to the sunshine—and to another season of outdoor sessions with families!

Outdoor Family Sessions in Eugene, OR
Last year I did my outdoor family sessions at Perkins Peninsula Park near Fern Ridge, and the pictures turned out so beautifully! The park was a perfect photo spot, with areas of open grass, mature trees, and water views that provided a great variety of backdrops for our portraits, plus plenty of room for littles to run and play.

I held these sessions from late July through early October and was joined by eighteen families who wanted to update their family photos and make great memories at the same time. It was a fantastic experience—as always!

A Fun and Relaxed Family Portrait Experience
When it comes to family photos, I love to highlight relationships and interactions. Posed family portraits are perfect for some scenarios—and we’ll definitely get these kinds of photos during our time together—but I also love to capture more candid images as families play and laugh together. I find that an outdoor setting often prompts these types of interactions naturally, especially when kiddos are involved, so that families can spend time just having fun together while I document all the best moments with my camera.

To me, family photos should be about the memories as much as the images, so I do everything I can to ensure that everyone feels relaxed and comfortable. I also want it to feel personalized, so I encourage you to let your personalities and family culture shine through. Last year, one family who loves water play even brought their boat, which made for such a fun ‘prop.’
